Munich’s City Foundation Day is an annual celebration commemorating the founding of the Bavarian capital in 1158. It traditionally takes place in mid-June and transforms the city centre into a vibrant festival full of history, culture, and entertainment. Marienplatz square and the surrounding streets become the stage for historical performances, medieval craft markets and traditional music, with artists in historical costumes bringing the city’s founding era to life.
